Still Using Your Shirt To Clean Your iPad Screen?

Do you use a touch screen? Then cleaning your screen is now more important than ever. Touch screens get dirty quickly and frequently, so whatever you use to clean your screen is going to have a big impact on how well your screen holds up. Since investments in tablets and cell phone can be costly it is advisable to carefully consider what material you use for screen cleaning.

Can using the wrong product damage the screen over time? The answer is yes, even though you may not see the damage right away, and it is very unpleasant to have to look at a scratched screen continuously. Plus, with the amount of hours people are spending looking at their screen every single day, why not have the best possible experiences a crystal clear screen can offer?

Why is it bad to use your shirt to clean the screen? The problem is that the fibers that make up the weave in shirts and pants are thick fibers and they do not have the ability to pick up and hold fine particles of dirt and grease. As a result they drag the dirt on the surface, forming very tiny scratches. Over time the small scratches that you may not notice right away can build up and create irreversible damage.

Dont let this happen to your iPad: "I was using my tshirt to clean my iPad screen and it made a scratch. Now every time I use my iPad that scratch is the first thing I see. I was thinking of getting a replacement screen but I cannot afford it right now, plus I would be without my iPad while it is being fixed." Danny Hudson

You might be tempted to exert more pressure to try to make the wrong cleaning cloth work more effectively. That only makes the problem worse. Your screen may look somewhat cleaner but that is mainly because you are spreading the dirt over a wider area. Plus, too much pressure can be harmful to the screen. With the appropriate cloth only light pressure is needed. When you notice any streaking or a cloudy film on your screen this is due to the fact that you have used the wrong cloth that only spreads the dirt.

Thick and abrasive fibers are not just limited to shirts and pants. Cotton fibers from t-shirts, rags, and dish towels have thick fibers and can actually be abrasive. Tissues and paper towels are made of abrasive wood fibers.

What then is recommended? Use only using the highest quality microfiber cloths to clean your screen. Microfiber cloths consists of super thin fibers one-hundredth as thin as a strand of human hair and then woven into a high density matrix. These thin fibers can lift as well as hold microscopic particles of dirt so they are not dragged on the surface. That is why they clean without scratching and without smearing the dirt. Microfiber cloths were created for cleaning delicate surfaces.

Secondly, make sure you are using top quality microfiber cloths as there has been a flood of cheap microfiber cloths coming into the market. Low grade microfiber cloth is made of cheap raw materials, they do not remove grease as effectively and they often produce more lint than the dirt they pick up!

Using poor quality microfiber is only going to add to your frustration, "I got a microfiber cloth that came with my laptop, but I just cant lift the dust off the screen. They all push the dust around but it seems to be basically stuck, and I cant get the dust out of the corners." Lisa Monk

How can you tell the quality of microfiber cloths? First, do they feel soft? Second, their ability to pick up dust and dirt: do they do the job; does your screen look crystal clear? Fine quality microfiber cloth has exceptional cleaning power. They are able to remove grease directly put on the screen without smearing. Your microfiber cloth should be able to do that. Of course, it is impossible to judge before buying and using the cloth and therefore purchase from reputable suppliers who specialize in supplying top grade microfiber cloths and that specifically offers microfiber screen cleaning cloths.

Some people have said that the best way to prevent smudges is not to touch the screen but to use a stylus at all times. Then somewhat defeats the purpose making touch screen products; the joy of directly interacting with the screen. Screen protectors are widely recommended for scratch protection and to avoid getting smudges. The problem is that screen protectors do take away a certain amount of screen clarity, plus screen protectors also get dirty and also need to be cleaned properly, which brings us back to using microfiber cloths.

Summary of screen cleaning tips:
* Quality cloths do make a difference - for screen cleaning use highest grade microfiber
* Quality microfiber should remove all traces of smudges with a single swipe
* When buying microfiber look at the total cost of ownership, not just the cheapest price
* Do not use your shirt or pants to clean your screen
* Do not use dirty or abrasive cloths, or cloths that lint
* Do not use tissues, paper towels, or even cotton towels

If smudges on your screen are driving you crazy, invest in a good quality cloth. It will provide greater satisfaction, peace of mind and save you time and money in the long run.
